A man at a construction site is filling a CircuPUR collection bag with empty PU foam cans

Empty PU foam cans are becoming an increasing waste challenge on construction sites. Many contractors are unsure how to handle this type of hazardous waste correctly. With the launch of CircuPUR, a practical and compliant solution is now available for the collection and recycling of PU foam cans in Belgium.

What is CircuPUR?

PU foam cans are widely used in the construction sector. Once empty, however, they generate significant volumes of hazardous waste, making proper disposal and recycling increasingly important.

Initiated by producers and Valipac, CircuPUR® provides a structured solution to collect this waste directly on construction sites and channel it through professional distributors to licensed recycling facilities.

The system is part of the Clean Site System, which is already well established in the construction industry for the collection and recycling of plastic film.

At DL Chemicals, we are proud to be actively involved in CircuPUR, taking responsibility for the end-of-life management of the PU foam cans we place on the market.

How does CircuPUR work?

CircuPUR is designed to make PU foam waste management simple and practical on-site, without adding complexity to daily operations:

  • Collection bags are available through a wide network of participating distributors (€1 per bag)

  • Empty PU foam cans are collected on-site in these bags (max. 25 cans per bag)

  • Filled bags are returned to a participating distributor (professional trade outlet)

  • CircuPUR organises collection via a specialised partner and ensures transport to a licensed recycling facility

This system enables professional users to manage PU foam waste efficiently while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable working environment. (Private users can dispose of their PU foam cans at local recycling parks.)

Important: Only PU foam cans from participating producers (recognisable by the CircuPUR logo) are eligible for collection. CircuPUR operates exclusively within Belgium.

Why is separate collection of PU foam cans important?

CircuPUR represents a clear step towards a more circular construction sector. Beyond sustainability, it offers tangible on-site benefits:

  • Safe and compliant waste handling: PU foam cans must not be disposed of with PMD or residual waste and are collected correctly through CircuPUR

  • Reduced administrative and operational burden

  • Compliance with Belgian legal requirements for separate collection

  • Contribution to a cleaner and more organised construction site

  • Efficient collection and processing via certified recycling facilities

By improving waste management, CircuPUR helps contractors run more efficient, cleaner and future-proof construction sites.

Transparent financing

To support the system, a CircuPUR contribution of €0.11 per PU foam can will be applied as of 1 June 2026.
This contribution ensures the structural organisation of collection, logistics and recycling.
