Which silicone should you use for a bathroom, toilet or shower?
In damp areas such as bathrooms, toilets and showers, a sanitary silicone sealant is recommended. This sealant is specially designed for areas with higher humidity, where the sealant frequently comes into contact with water.
Why use a sanitary silicone sealant?
A sanitary silicone sealant has three important properties:
- Waterproof
- A waterproof sealant helps prevent leaks and protects the surroundings against moisture problems.
- Mould-resistant
- Damp areas are prone to mould formation. A mould-resistant silicone helps prevent this.
- Elastic
- An elastic sealant moves with substrates and prevents cracks or loose joints, for example around shower trays or baths.

What happens if you use the wrong sealant?
Choosing the wrong sealant can lead to problems such as:
- Mould formation
- Discolouration
- Loose joints or tiles
- Leaks and water damage
- Unhygienic joints
Do not forget to clean the substrate
For optimal adhesion, it is important to thoroughly clean the substrate before applying the sanitary sealant. A suitable cleaner such as Multi-Purpose Super Cleaner can be used for this purpose.
