How are elastic joints best cleaned?

Recommended cleaning procedure.

  •  Cleaning of the joint seal must be done regularly.
  • Take cold or hot (< 50°C), clean water and a mild detergent.
  • In case of more stubborn surface soiling, you can use a soft brush.
  • Rinse all cleaned joint surfaces with clean water.
  • In case of painted façade surfaces: cleaning of the joint seal can be part of a general cleaning of painted façade surfaces. Any instructions regarding method, tools or cleaning agents... should be checked with both the paint and joint sealant manufacturer before cleaning.

Cleaning operations that can damage the joint are not recommended

  • Heavy mechanical scrubbing.
  • Spraying with high-pressure water.
  • Clean with too hot (>50°C) water.
  • Using aggressive chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia and bleach.
  • Leaving cleaners on the surface for too long.
